Matala has their place also in Greek Mythology. It is the place where Zeus, according to myth, having taken the form of a bull, swam ashore with Europa on his back before dragging her in the nearby Gortys with its marvelous Archaeological Site.
The beach extends over 300 metres, with light golden sand and bamboo umbrellas and sun beds available for relax and admiring the colourful view.
