Samaria Gorge is well known for its great length (16km) , making it the largest of Crete and the 2nd largest gorge in whole Europe . The total hiking lasts around 7-8 hours , attracting thousands of visitors every year through May - October period. But , what if someone is not convenient with the idea of making a total hiking and prefers a more relaxing and less adventurous trail ? We start our trip , early in the morning from your hotel area , arriving in Omalos Plateau at an altitude of around 1200 meters. After a refreshment break in a place totally ideal for relaxing , photoshooting etc. , the hiking escort will provide you all the necessary instructions of the tour and then he/she will enter the gorge with the rest of the group (the Samaria Gorge Long Way participants , that will meet you again in Agia Roumeli exit point).
The driver will guide you to the seaside village of Sougia, where you will be embarked on the boat for your arrival in Agia Roumeli. You can walk until the most narrowest part of the Gorge , named "Iron Gates" ( 3-4 km distanced from Agia Roumeli) . A place like paradise , Agia Roumeli , totally relaxing offers a variety of shops , taverns and crystal clear waters . Early in the afternoon, the following group will be reunited with you and the return to Chania will be taken place . An excursion in a wonderful landscape, definitely not to be missed !
