This historic monastery, dedicated to Virgin Mary, is surrounded from the legend of the golden step in which, only a truly devout is able to see it. Elafonisi is 5 kilometers from Chrissoskalitissa. Its sand is white, but in many places it is pinkish due to the thousands of broken seashells that contains. The limpid, blue-green waters will remind you an exotic paradise.
Arriving at these gorgeous destination you have 4 hours to marvel at the play of colors between the soft white – pink sand, the blue sky and the turquoise waters. Apart from staying on the main beach you can also explore the small island, which is less than 200 meters from the beach and lies just off shore. You can easily walk there through the warm, shallow water of the lagoon or reach it by wading through the water. On reaching the island you will discover lots of tiny beaches on its south coast. Both beach and the island are protected wildlife areas of a rare beauty, confirming why Elafonisi is a remarkable and splendid destination.
